Tickets that hold, sell, and scan once
Events with tiers, seats and door metadata. A ticket is held the moment it goes in a basket, expires if the checkout is abandoned, and admits exactly one person once. The door decides in a single call, so two phones showing the same screenshot cannot both get in.
A basket that reserves, and a hold that expires
Putting a ticket in a basket takes it off the wall for ten minutes. Anything else oversells a room that has a fire capacity: without a hold, the last four tickets sell nine times and four of those people paid to stand outside. Abandoned holds return to the pool on their own — nobody sweeps them by hand.
Admitted once, decided in one place
The scan is a claim on the ticket, not a lookup: whichever device asks first admits, and every device after it is told the ticket is already in. A screenshot forwarded to four friends admits one of them. The door is deliberately online-only, because a venue door has signal and the alternative is letting all four in and finding out at the end of the night.
What the door needs to see, on the door screen
VIP, 18-21, 21-plus, a seat, a section. Staff on the door are looking at a phone in the rain and deciding in a second, so the badge that changes what they do is the biggest thing on the screen. Age banding is the venue's licence on the line, not a nice-to-have field.
