Brokerages, salons renting chairs, trades with subcontractors, agencies. If you engage people as contractors, the tools built for employees will quietly manufacture evidence that they are not.
The premise of contractor status is that you do not control how the work is done. Filing a conduct write-up, setting mandatory availability or putting somebody on a rota says the opposite — in your own system, with a date on it. Most software will let you, and the record it leaves is the record used against you.
Writing up a contractor for conduct is declined with the reason and an alternative: raise it against the engagement — a breach, a remedy, a deadline, or a decision not to renew. A greyed-out button teaches nobody; a sentence explaining the distinction is the useful thing.
Arrangements vary and we are not your lawyer. Every refusal can be overridden with a written reason, which is kept along with the refusal it overrode — so a deliberate decision looks like one, rather than looking like nobody noticed.
Ending an engagement is fine for anyone; revoking a login proves nothing, and it is "dismissed for cause" that does the damage. Mandatory safety and licensing training stays allowed for everybody on site — that is control of the place, not of the method.
